Expertise
PERATIM brings together broad mechanical engineering experience with analytical and numerical methods to solve difficult engineering problems and develop new products and concepts.
Our work ranges from focused analysis of a specific technical issue to the design, simulation and development of complete mechanical systems and commercial products. This breadth allows us to work across industries ranging from MedTech and advanced manufacturing to heavy mechanical engineering and energy. Our experience also includes energy efficiency and renewable-energy applications, including the analysis and optimisation of energy use in mechanical systems and industrial equipment.
Mechanical Design & Product Development
We can support product development from initial concept through detailed design, prototyping, testing and into production.

Example Projects
04: Cable Resistance Brake Mechanism
14: Centrifugal & Vane-Axial Fan Design
First-Principles & Mathematical Analysis
PERATIM uses first-principles analysis and mathematical modelling to understand the underlying physics of an engineering problem and, where appropriate, to provide an independent reference against which numerical results can be assessed. This approach can provide valuable insight into the behaviour of a system, guide subsequent simulation or testing, and help ensure that engineering conclusions are grounded in the underlying physics.

Computational & Numerical Methods
Bespoke Analytical Solvers
Example Projects
07: Machine Design Energy Calculator
09: Cryoablation Process Characterisation
14: Centrifugal & Vane-Axial Fan Design
Simulation – FEA & CFD
Producing a colourful simulation plot is relatively easy. Knowing whether it represents reality is considerably more difficult.
PERATIM has extensive experience applying simulation techniques to real-world engineering problems. We combine simulation with first-principles analysis, mathematical modelling and engineering judgement. We carefully consider the assumptions, boundary conditions and numerical methods involved, and wherever practicable, assess simulation results against analytical predictions, experimental data or other independent evidence.
FEA – Stress & Deformation · Fatigue · Heat Transfer · Vibration
CFD - Fluid Dynamics · Aerodynamics · Thermal & Heat transfer
Example Projects
02: Balloon Mould Thermal Analysis
08: Process Tank Thermal Stratification
17: Oven Thermal Plume Analysis
Experimental Testing & Validation Support
Testing can be used to validate a design, to independently investigate a particular engineering problem or as part of a wider programme of analysis, simulation, design and validation. Effective testing starts with asking the right questions. PERATIM can design appropriate test programmes, help specify test methods, fixtures and instrumentation, support clients through testing, and analyse and interpret the resulting data.
